2019-2020 RISK MANAGEMENT
2019-08-272019-2020 RISK MANAGEMENT
As we begin a new season of hockey, we would like to bring you all up to speed on the new Risk Management Policies announced by HNS.
Hockey Nova Scotia will no longer require bench staff to complete a Child Abuse Registry (CAR) Check. In place of the Child Abuse Registry (CAR) Check all bench staff will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
A Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is a police information check plus a check to see if a person has a record suspension (pardon) for sexual offences. Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSC) were created in 2000 to protect children and vulnerable persons.
As in previous years, bench staff will also be required to complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC), in addition to the Respect in Sport program.
This change will help streamline the screening process for bench staff as both the CRC and VSC are done at the same time. This will also ensure that the hockey environment remains safe for our players.
To recap, bench staff will be required to complete the following Risk Management:
Criminal Record Check (CRC)
Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
Respect in Sport
Coaches are encouraged to monitor their own eHockey accounts and update credentials prior to season startup.
