Atom AA Selects Advance to Day of Champions
2016-03-05The Pictou County Atom AA Subway Selects are Southern Conference Female Hockey Federation league champions and the team will be competing on the Day of Champions for the Nova Scotia Atom Female AA Crown.
The Pictou County Atom AA Subway Selects will be going to the day of champions. This past weekend, the Selects earned that right, by defeating the Bedford Blues, 2 straight games, in a best 2 of 3 play down series. On Saturday at the Wellness Centre, the Selects outshot the Blues 24-4 on route to a 2-0 win. Scoring for the Selects were MacKenzie Greencorn and Rylan Biron. Assists went to Lucia Mason and Emma MacLeod. On Sunday at the BMO Centre in Bedford, the Selects once again dominated the Blues in a 2-0 final score, this time outshooting their opponents 44-12. Scoring for the Selects were Mason and Greencorn. Jorja Burrows played strong in net for both games, making key saves, to earn the back to back shutouts.
Head coach Tanya MacDonald, said after the series…. “all the girls stepped up to the plate, it was a total team effort and everyone gave it 110%… I’m so proud of how the girls came to play… each one of the girls has their part to play on this team and they played it to perfection”
The Selects will meet either the Halifax Hawks or Chebucto Atlantics in a one game showdown to determine a Nova Scotia Female Atom AA champion. The game will be held at the Wellness Centre On April 11th at 11am .
Earlier this month, the Selects won the Southern Conference Female Hockey Federation banner by finishing first in the league for the 30 game regular season. The team finished with a record of 13 wins, 5 loses and 12 ties for a total of 38 points, 7 more then the second place Halifax Hawks.
