BANTAM AA SELECTS LOSE ONE AND TIE ONE

The Pictou County Bantam AA Subway Selects suffered their first loss since November 23rd at the hands of the Glace Bay Miners this past weekend. The Selects travelled to Glace Bay on Saturday and dropped a 1-0 decision to the Miners who are tops in the Provincial Bantam AA league. The Selects came out flat and were unable to sustain any pressure in the Glace Bay end. The Miners scored ten minutes into the first period and held that lead through three periods. The Selects had the edge in play through most of the second and third periods but were unable to solve the Glace Bay net minder. Victoria Dunn suffered the loss in the Pictou net.

The Selects had a much better effort in the Sunday morning match at the Bayplex. Despite spotting a 2-0 lead early, the Subways battled back and scored two of their own to even things up after two periods. Taylor MacKenzie got the Selects on the board after jamming a loose puck home. Mariah Linehan had an assist on the goal. Linehan  evened the score on a nice individual rush, beating two defenders and roofing one to the blocker side. Linehan then put the Selects ahead for the first time with eight minutes remaining in the third when, again, she rushed the puck up ice and slipped one over the pads of the Glace Bay goalie. The Selects looked good to earn the win but with just over four minutes to play, gave up a power play goal to the Miners. The Subways pushed hard in the final four minutes to get the extra point but settled for a 3-3 tie. Jenna Landry was in goal for Pictou who were short three players due to the injury bug. The Selects are back in action next weekend when they take on the Bedford Blues at the West Colchester arena in Debert on Saturday. Game time is at 3pm.
