Bantam AA Selects Unbeaten Streak In Tact‏

The Pictou County Bantam AA Subway Selects earned five of six points this weekend with two wins and a tie in the Provincial female Bantam AA league. On Friday night the Selects took on the TASA Ducks at the Wellness Center and came out on top with a 2-1 win. Haylee Porter and Jenna Reid did the scoring for the Selects with the only assist going to Sarah MacNeil. Victoria Dunn got the win between the pipes.

On Saturday the Valley Wild faced off against the Subways at the Hector Arena in an afternoon matchup. The Wild came out flying and stymied every offensive attack the Selects could muster. After scoring late in the second, the Valley took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission. The Selects attempted a counter attack in the third but fell behind 3-0 after the Wild struck twice early in the frame. The Subways got into penalty trouble after a four minute hit to the head infraction was assessed. Pictou County seemed to gain some momentum on the penalty kill and scored immediately after the penalty expired. Chloe MacDonald got the Selects on the board with a great shot in front. Rhea Young and Brianna Cameron had assists on the play. With just under two minutes to play, the Subways pulled net minder Jenna Landry in favour of an extra attacker and struck just twenty seconds later to make it 3-2. Haylee Porter picked up a loose puck off the face off and bounced it in off  a Valley defender. Taylor MacKenzie had the only assist. On the ensuing face off, the Selects managed to get the puck deep once again, allowing Landry to head to the bench for the sixth skater for a second time. After just barely keeping the puck inside the line, Hannah Porter got a shot on net where MacDonald scored her second of the game, knotting the score at three apiece with just 20 seconds to play. The Selects hung on and earned a point in the final minutes of the game to improve their unbeaten record.

On Sunday the Selects headed to the BMO Center where they played the return match against the Ducks. Pictou County jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Lindsey Smith. Eva Wornell spotted the Subways a 2-0 lead in the second period when she scored on the power play with .04 seconds left on the clock. The Selects kept the Ducks off the board throughout most of the third until they were assessed two penalties back to back in the last minute of the period. The short handed situation allowed TASA to pull their goalie for a six on three situation setting them up to score, making it 2-1 with just 43 seconds to play. Pictou County managed to kill off the clock and scored the win, leaving them unbeaten in 18 straight games. Landry once again got the win between the pipes for Pictou County.

The Selects are on the road next weekend when they travel to Cape Breton for a two game series on Saturday and Sunday.
