Bantam AA Selects Win Two‏

The Pictou County Bantam AA Subway Selects won two more games this weekend as they continue to climb the female Bantam AA Provincial League Standings. The Selects played host to the Cole Harbour Wings in Pictou on Saturday and came out on top with a score of 2-0. Eight minutes into the first period, Lindsey Smith broke down the left wing and fired a snapshot through the pads of the Cole Harbour net minder to put the Selects ahead 1-0. Pictou County goaltender, Jenna Landry had her first career assist on the play. The game would remain 1-0 for Pictou until Lindsey MacDonald iced it with a wrap around goal with just over four minutes to play. Line mates Rhea Young and Briana Cameron earned assists on the goal. Landry got the shut out between the pipes.

On Sunday, the Subways travelled to Halifax where they took on the Hawks in an afternoon tilt. Halifax came out hard and kept the Selects off the board and limited scoring opportunities, despite being outshot 5-0. The Hawks had the edge in play in the second, outshooting Pictou 6-1. Selects goaltender Victoria Dun made several key saves to keep the game knotted at zero heading into the third period. The Selects found their legs in the final frame and had several good scoring chances before Eva Wornell finally put the Subways ahead 1-0 four minutes into the period. Pictou County would hang on to the lead and complete their weekend sweep with the 1-0 victory over the Hawks. Dunn earned the shutout for her team.

Pictou County returns to league play with three big games on tap next weekend. The Selects host TASA at the Wellness Center on Friday night, Valley in Pictou on Sunday, then travel to Bedford to play TASA on Sunday.
