Ballantyne Fuels PeeWee AAA Crushers at Bluewave Challenge Cup
2014-11-22This past weekend the Ballantyne Fuels PeeWee AAA Crushers participated in the Bluewave Challenge Cup an showed they could compete with the top teams in the Maritimes. They skated away with a win, two ties and a loss.
In Friday’s action, they opened the tournament with a 2-2 tie versus the Dartmouth Whalers. Dartmouth scored early in the first period and the crew settled in and went to work scoring 2 goals in the second to take the lead. Goal scorers were Nole Chapman from Ryan Green and MacLean Tobin and Connor MacLeod unassisted. The Whalers tied it late in the second period and the final score was 2-2 Brayden Leblanc was solid in goal and earned Player of the Game honours.
The next game the boys played a very strong Pownal team and were defeated 4-1. The lone goal was scored by MacLeod with Blake Kontuk and Ryan Alexander picking up assists. Keegan Walker was between the pipes. Kontuk earned Player of the Game.
On Saturday, the Crushers faced off against Cape Breton West and easily defeated them 7-2 with Kontuk putting on a scoring clinic and put 5 pucks behind their goalie and Green netting 2. Earning assists were Chisholm(3) and MacLeod(2). Brayden Leblanc recorded the win. Player of the Game went to Kontuk.
Their final game was a very physical game against the Sherwood Falcons. The Falcons scored late in the first period and MacLeod scored from Kontuk in the second to even the score. They battled hard in the third, but couldn’t bury the puck and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Keegan Walker earned Player of the Game for his stellar play.
Next action for the squad is this weekend when the host the league leading Acadia Axeman. Saturday the game is at 4pm and Sunday’s game is 9:15 at the Wellness Centre. Go Crushers Go!!
