Bantam AA Selects Open with Playoff Win‏

The Pictou County Bantam AA Subway Selects opened their Provincial League Playoffs with a 2-1 victory over the TASA Ducks in Antigonish on Saturday afternoon. The eight team provincial league is holding a League championship playoff in advance of the 2014 Hockey Nova Scotia provincial championships being held in Pictou on March 7th through 9th. On Saturday afternoon at the Millennium Center, the Selects spotted the Ducks a 1-0 lead mid-way through the first period before storming back to tie it up on a goal by Patti-Ann Tracy in the second period. It was a tight checking affair through the majority of the game as scoring chances were limited at both ends of the ice. The Selects took control from the drop of the puck in the third period , outshooting TASA 7-3. Jensen Arsenault scored, what would prove to the be the winner, two minutes into the final frame on a point shot through a screen that was deflected in front. The Subways then managed to kill off a man advantage with under a minute to play while TASA pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker to win their first game of the playoffs. Jenna Landry was solid between the pipes for the win. Pictou County held a slim 17-15 shots on goal advantage in the game. The Selects will practice this week before the playoffs continue with a trip to Sackville next Saturday followed by a tilt in Brookfield  on Sunday.
